Answers to the questions you may have about counselling and taking the first step.

What is counselling?

Counselling is a professional, confidential conversation with a trained therapist to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It can help you gain insight, resolve issues, and improve your mental health.

How do I know if I need counselling?

If you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, sad, or stuck, or if you're going through a difficult life transition, counselling might help. Common reasons people seek counselling include stress, grief, relationship issues, depression, and anxiety.

How do I get started with counselling?

You can get started by scheduling an initial consultation or contacting me for more information.

Do I need to be referred by a doctor to see a counsellor?

No, you do not need a referral. You can contact me via email directly to schedule an appointment with me.

What can I expect during a counselling session?

In your first session, I will ask about your background, challenges, and what you're hoping to achieve in counselling. Sessions typically involve conversation, but the approach varies depending on your goals.

How long are counselling sessions?

Counselling sessions last 50 minutes.

How many counselling sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on the issues you're dealing with and your personal goals. Some people may need just a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term counselling.

What types of counselling do you offer?

I offer individual therapy for specific issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and more. I use the Integrative model that draws on using different modalities to best meet clients needs throughout their journey.

Are counselling sessions confidential?

Yes, counselling is confidential. What you discuss with your counsellor remains private, with a few exceptions related to safety concerns (such as risk of harm to yourself or others). This will be discussed whilst contracting.

How much does counselling cost?

£55 per 50 minute session.

Is online counselling as effective as in-person therapy?

Online counselling may suit some people, while others prefer meeting in person. Please get in touch to discuss session arrangements and what would work best for you.

What should I do if I feel in crisis or need urgent help?

If you are in immediate danger, call 999 or go to A&E. For someone to listen, Samaritans are available free, day or night, on 116 123. Visit Samaritans. Please do not wait for a reply from this practice if you need urgent help.

Can counselling help with relationship issues?

Individual counselling can offer space to explore your relationships, communication, boundaries and how you feel within them. Please get in touch to discuss the support you are looking for.

Will I be judged in counselling?

No, I am trained to provide a safe, non-judgmental space. The goal of counselling is to listen, understand, and help you work through challenges without criticism.

How do I cancel or reschedule an appointment?

You can cancel or reschedule an appointment by emailing me directly. Please provide at least 48 hours’ notice to avoid a cancellation fee.

What happens if I miss an appointment?

If you miss an appointment, please contact me as soon as possible. My policy includes a missed appointment fee, depending on the terms of your booking.
